The STAR Eco Station is an environmental science museum, an exotic wildlife rescue center, and a haven for endangered and illegally-trafficked exotic animals confiscated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. A great place to take the kids if you can't make it to the zoo during your stay.

Wow wow wow! Eco Station was an amazing experience. I went on a Saturday at noon and it was not crowded at all. The group was maybe 10 people total. Parking was easy because they had a few designated spots in the parking lot that their entrance faces. Their website does mention the limited parking spots so I was prepared to find street parking. Please keep that in mind and bring change. I would hate for an amazing experience like this to be disappointing because of something like parking. The public tours are 45-60 minutes long but ours ran a little over. I'm not complaining! We had Louis as our tour guide and I'm really glad we did. He did a great job talking about each and every animal and engaging the whole audience which ranged from toddlers to grandparents. The animals there were true beauty. It was obvious that some of these animals were abused or neglected but Eco Station does a great job enhancing their beauty. I would highly recommend visiting this (very affordable) gem!!

Part wildlife rescue center, part educational facility, this very family-friendly enterprise practices what it preaches in terms of environmental awareness—it was even built from recycled materials. Staff provides care for unwanted exotic animals, many of which have either been donated by the public or were confiscated by governmental agencies. Families are welcome to pet an alligator or stroke a snake as they learn about endangered species, environmental concerns and how kids can make a change. A number of other exhibits add further context; call or check online for details of special events.
