Drive along Tarawera rd. You have to get to the terrace, which overlooks the volcano and Lake Taravera. After you can go back and after 1 km there is the historical site Buried village. A very picturesque place. Beautiful views, waterfalls, etc. By the way, the story of Rotorua begins here. The office is built in the style of an old hotel, and the workers of this place are dressed in old dresses. The interior is decorated in antique style, you can put on old costumes and take photos in this interior, as well as send a postcard from this place to your loved ones in your country.

The village of Te Wairoa was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886. Successive archaeological excavations have unearthed areas of the village to provide an insight into the life and times of the people who lived here. Set in a beautiful landscape the walk and the history make this a worthwhile 1/2 day visit.

This is the site where in the late 1800 a village was covered with volcanic ash after the Mt Tarawera eruption. There is a walk down a waterfall that leads to Lake Tarawera landing.
