Drive along Tarawera rd. You have to get to the terrace, which overlooks the volcano and Lake Taravera. After you can go back and after 1 km there is the historical site Buried village. A very picturesque place. Beautiful views, waterfalls, etc. By the way, the story of Rotorua begins here. The…

“Hell's Gate is unique, there is an optional geothermal walk but most people go there to give the unique mud bath a go which is so much fun, although timed for 20-minutes you do get to move into the sulphur spa afterwards for an unlimited time. Be aware that afterwards, special care needs to be had with your swimwear. We recommend soaking in ammonia and can supply this for you, which neutralises the sulphur smells out of your clothes. Then you launder as usual.”

“Great food and service close by to your stay! Just 1.7km down the road from your stay is The Landing Cafe. Their 2 chefs, Pete or Ratana have created a new menu and their food is legendary. It certainly pays to call and book as they can be busy or conversely if its a bit quiet they will close early. I visit there often and give this place the big thumbs up recomendation! ”
