45 mins drive away... this is the real deal...you can feel the hustle and bustle of Redcoats in this remote base guarding the main road North...'enemy' territory all around...

Near Kingnussie, this is a good short stop off. It was built by King George II after the second Jacobite rising in 1715 to help keep the rebelling Highlanders in check.

Well preserved barrack buildings that were built after the jacobite rising. Raised spot with great views. Free access and parking. Very photogenic.

A lovely one mile walk or off road cycle along the Badenoch Way from us. Built by the Redcoats to keep the Jacobites in order at a cross roads of ancient Highland routes - including the one past the local coach house, now Invertromie Farm Steading.

Sight of historical significance: Ruthven Barracks were built by George II’s government between 1719 and 1721 following the Jacobite rising of 1715. They were to house garrison infantry to police the area and enforce the Disarming Act of 1716.
