Im always telling people about this wonderful eatery I happened to find and fall in love with, then took our daughter and grand daughter too, and just keep recommending it to anyone who will listen. Why? the food is amazing. Fresh trendy wholesome. But its the setting. its kind of a 50's inspired…

Food is great and has a 1970's vibe. Lounge chairs, good munis and coffee.

Point of Interest
“Along the track visitors can observe relics of the many processes that took place in extracting gold - from the tunnels where rock was extracted, to the roasting pits where the rock was broken down, and finally remnants of the huge stamper battery processing plant. The Talisman battery, built in the 1890s was huge in its day, with 50 stampers crushing rock around the clock. Further initiatives in the development of this walkway are the reconstruction of the tramlines that were used to transport rock to the battery and a number of interpretive boards will be mounted along the walk. Tip: Ensure you stop at the Visitor Centre at the Waikino Caf to look at the old black and white photos to get an idea of the size of the community that flourished in the Karangahake Gorge during the gold mining era. Directions: Just off SH2 between Paeroa and Waihi. The walk starts in the Karangahake Gorge carpark area. Time: About an hour round trip, though it's easy to linger longer.”

“A unique and interesting working farm. Explore beautiful farmland, set in a secluded, bush-clad valley. Get up close to a huge variety of unusual rarebreed farm animals - all are friendly and can be hand-fed! Several picnic areas, refreshments, toys and gifts.”

“A little further afield, but well worth the effort of getting in the car, Falls Retreat is tucked away in the Karangahake Gorge just past Waihi township, and offers great food in an idyllic setting. The wood-fired pizzas are the highlight of the menu and if you’ve visiting in winter, ask for a table by the fire when you book (bookings are recommended for lunch and dinner). If you’re heading north after your stay, this is an ideal spot to stop for lunch on your way home.”
