This is an area of outstanding beauty and one of my personal favourite places to visit. It hosts stunning panoramic views of the Mourne Mountains and Dundrum Bay. It also offers a short but uphill walk round the castle grounds, a picnic area and public toilets.

This is one of my absolute favourite places to visit, the views of the mountains and Murlough Bay are just stunning. Also there is a great fish and chip shop in Dundrum, it’s the perfect place to sit and eat them whilst taking in the views.

“A very short drive or twenty minute walk away is a restored 18th-century Gaol. You can take a journey through 9,000 years of history through the permanent exhibition 'Down Through Time' or visit the restored cell block with life-size figures of prisoners and their gaolers. There are also temporary displays throughout the year and they host the local Downpatrick Artisan Market in the courtyard every third Saturday of the month. Over twenty traders come together to sell their quality artisan food and craft products between 11am to 3pm. If you happen to be staying on the right Saturday please check their facebook page to make sure it is happening as it was closed due to Covid-19.”
