If you want to be on the water try an outrigger canoe. Kihei Canoe Club is the perfect way to have some fun, paddle and enjoy the water. Check out their website for "visitor paddle". You will not be disappointed.

You may not know about Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling. Kihei Canoe Club takes up much of my mom’s time, and I’ve paddled for KCC too. The canoe site is about a mile north of Kihei Bay Surf. I love being on the water; the people are healthy and involved; there is a spot for every level. Go to the Kihei Canoe Club website for a look. If you would like to give it a try, I suggest going to the visitor paddle on a Tuesday or Thursday. Be at the Kihei Canoe Club site by about 7:15 am to be sure to get a seat. You do not need to be experienced (but know how to swim just in case). The club asks for a donation – $40, but it goes to good use, and you will get to be on the water and are likely to have a wonderful experience. The whales are in our waters from about December to April. At other times, you are likely to see turtles and other marine life. Usually, you will be able to take a short swim, and you can take a snorkel and mask with you too (look for the ones in the big closet). Just drop over the side of the canoe when you stop to rest, but ask the steers-person first. If you are lucky, Kimokeo, the KCC Hawaiian cultural leader will be there too. If the waves are high or there is a shore break, the boats won’t go out. They want everyone to be safe – and have a good time.
