it is the largest museum in Kosovo, located in an Austro-Hungarian-style building from 1889 that previously served as the high military command headquarters. The Museum is the earliest institution of cultural heritage in Kosovo, established with the goal of preserving, restoration-conservation and presentation of movable heritage on the territory. It is situated in a special facility, from an architectural point of view but also because of its location since it is situated at the old nucleus of the city centre.

The museum has two floors, one with a history of the area through the last couple of thousand years and the other capturing more recent times. I highly recommend getting a tour (also free with an optional donation at the end)
One of the best experiences a traveler can have in Pristina. Definitely worth the time. The guide is very knowledgeable about both the exhibits and the narrative behind each of them. The museum is essentially divided into 2 parts; the first floor is fundamentally the archaeological history of the nation and the second floor is the political (conflict) history of the nation; which culminates with the 98-99 war against the Serbian genocide and the Kosovo Declaration of Independence. A copy of which is on display. The museum provides a very critical narrative of the last occurrence of genocide that not only occurred on European soil but was denied by the world for far too long. A story that needs to be told and remembered. While neither is as extensive as some larger museums, both floors present a thorough understanding of the history of the Kosovar people, from 4500 BC to the present day. The symbol of Pristina is known as the Goddess on the Throne (the goddess of fertility). The museum is free to enter, but a donation is requested. At least 5 or 10 euros is deserved. Touring the museum will not take more than an hour to an hour and a half, but the lessons taught and learned in it, hopefully, will stay with visitors forever.

Kosovo Museum is the National Museum of Kosovo, located in the city of Pristina. It was founded in 1949 and is the largest museum in Kosovo. However, the building of the museum was constructed in 1889 and it was designed according to the Austro-Hungarian style of construction and its real aim was establishing the high military command of that time.
