This small, central park, bounded on its northern end by ul Tsar Osvoboditel, is favoured by Sofia's chess-playing pensioners. It's home to the National Theatre, and until 1999 held the mausoleum of Bulgaria’s first communist ruler, Georgi Dimitrov.

Nice garden in the middle between the Tsar’s palace and the buildings of the National Theatre and National Bank. Full with people all day and night. To visit the temporary library situated in a small glass pavilion in the garden.

Small park in the city centre that is home to the National Theatre, a beautiful ballerina statue and fountain ensemble and provides a peaceful and shady place for local chess players to test their prowess against one another. There are several cafes in the park.

However, probably the most crowded one of them all is the City Garden. Also known as “the garden in front of the National Theatre” it truly is one of the most social places in town. Enjoy a drink or two with your friends in this great outdoor environment!
