Mount Srđ offers a magnificent view of Dubrovnik and its surroundings. On a clear day, you can see up to 60 km (37 miles). The Dubrovnik cable, built in 1969, makes easy to come here. You can also get there on foot (see chapter Hiking & Walking). The monumental Fort Imperial was built at this strategic location during Napoleon's occupation in 1810. From the fort, the French controlled the sea and the hinterland of Dubrovnik. The Imperial Fort, as the first line of defense, played a major role during the Croatian War of Independence.

Located in Fort Imperial on Srđ hill. During the Homeland war, the fort was the first line of defence of Dubrovnik, becoming a symbol for the heroic defence of the city. Now it's a museum.
