Famously where the American Rangers scaled a vertical cliff under fire to attack a massive gun emplacement position threatening the troops on the D Day Beaches. Not landscaped and pristine, the pock marks of countless shells are still visible.
This really surpassed our expectations. The story of the D Day landings is beautifully captured - you can walk into the bomb craters and shelters. Fantastic views too.
La point du Hoc, les plages d'Ohama beach, Utah beach, Juno Beach, Sword beach
D Day Landing Beaches. British, American, Canadian and Commonwealth Museums are located throughout the area. It is a "must see" historic area with lots of history and nostalgia. They are all within approximately 1 hours travelling distance and several days could be spent there (if you so wished) absorbing the atmosphere.
