Take a beautiful drive on Highway 1 going south of SF -stunning views of the Pacific. Montara beach is great for hiking (not so much for swimming). Keep driving south and close by is Moss Beach with tide pools where you can see starfish, crabs and other sea life. A little further south is the town of Half Moon Bay. Nice shops and restaurants.

This beach is so nice, I love the coarse sand here! There is a lot of steps down to the beach so not good for disabled folks. But, I have brought my mom here and she was content to sit in the car at the top of the cliff and watch/listen to the waves. The waves get big here, so not a good place for swimming. But it's a great place to walk on the beach if you want a pretty good workout.
