(I havent been there yet, but I hear this is a MUST; also recommended for brunch) One of Chicago’s most renowned restaurants and its hugely popular burger has touched down in Tribeca, drawing long lines of burger obsessives. Au Cheval is known for its simple, classic American-style patty, served alongside a menu of other modern diner dishes such as duck heart hash and chilaquiles. The place is already slammed, though it’s a bit easier to slip into during the day, especially when the coffee shop up front, Sawada, is open. Soon, a downstairs bar will open to accommodate overspill.

This looks like a good bet if you are exploring downtown Manhattan by the Trade Center, 9/11 Museum, South Street Seaport, or taking ferries to see the Statue of Liberty or Governor's Island. It is an import from Chicago and NYC likes to beat Chicago in the foodie wars, so there is that. But if you don't feel the need to fly the NYC foodie flag why not check it out if you love burgers and are in the vicinity? Wildly popular Chicago burger destination Au Cheval expanded to NYC, opening an 85-seat restaurant serving its famous burgers and other takes on diner-style dishes such as a fried bologna sandwich and duck heart hash.
