Only a 15 minute train ride from Amsterdam Centraal is the beautiful city of Haarlem. Haarlem is small dutch city on the river Spaarne. It has lots of beautiful architecture. Highlights like Teylers museum (the oldest museum in The Netherlands, De Grote Markt (central market square) and Frans Hals Museum make Haarlem a must visit if you want to explore outside of Amsterdam during your stay.

Very nice historic city, great to walk around. Frans Halls museum is one of my favourites. And go the the Sint Bavo church square ('Grote Markt') for a drink Only 10 minute train ride from Sloterdijk station

30 min drive by car, but the bike ride to Haarlem is also very nice!

Haarlem is so close it can almost be considered a suburb of Amsterdam. The city centre can be reached in less than 20 minutes by train! The historic city of Haarlem makes a great alternative for a day in Amsterdam; smaller, less crowded, more authentic. Like Amsterdam, Haarlem has a beautiful historic canal area. There are numerous of great food options and equally or even more authentic shopping choices than Amsterdam; small boutiques, local stores. The Frans Hals Museum is the oldest art museum in the Netherlands with pieces of the Dutch Masters as well as contemporary art. We highly recommend spending a day in Haarlem and we have no doubt that you will not regret it.
