The Campanile, which was erected in 1923 to commemorate the landing of the 1820 settlers, is situated in Strand Street. It carries a carillon of 23 bells and has a great view of the harbour and the city from the Observation Room; however, to get there, you must climb the 204 steps to the top!

The Campanile is a historic building situated directly next to the train station and harbor in Port Elizabeth. It was recently renovated and visitors can climb the spiraling stairway to the top and enjoy the view from there. Taking the train to port Elizabeth would be a very easy way to reach the Campanile. The Campanile is also close to the old city center with beautiful old buildings.

The Campanile was erected to commemorate the landing of the 1820 Settlers and is situated at the entrance to the railway station and docks in Strand Street, the spot where it is said the settlers landed in Port Elizabeth. The 50m high Campanile Memorial has a climb of 204 steps that takes one to the Observation Room, offering a magnificent view of the harbour and surroundings, more than 52m above the city. A lift has been installed with a harbour viewing window so if you are not up for the climb you do not have to miss out. The Campanile contains the largest carillon of bells in the country
