Historic home of the famous Scottish author. Great guided tour and beautiful walks on the banks of the Tweed. Restaurant and gift shop are good, too.

One of the smaller stately homes in the area, jam packed and an entertaining story told in many languages via a headset. Beautiful grounds and gardens, children's play park, picnic tables, accessible walks through the woods and along the River Tweed. Great visitor centre with restaurant and gift shop.

Open to the public you can drop in and visit the writer’s house and see how Walter Scott designed and decorated the stately home. You’ll find it about 25 miles away toward Melrose, and the beautiful gardens are a must see in summer.

Abbotsford house was designed by the same architect as Woodlands House. It was loved and lived by the famous Scottish writer sir Walter Scott.
