The Quincy Mine is an extensive set of copper mines located near Hancock, Michigan. The mine was owned by the Quincy Mining Company and operated between 1846 and 1945. You can actually tour the underground mine and visit the store.

Stop in at the mine to visit their well stocked gift shop and to book a tour into the mine. It is worth setting aside a couple hours to experience the life of the miners who settled in this area. Some of the hardships they faced are difficult to imagine in this age of advanced technology.

This tour is a must for understanding the history and impact of the copper mining industry in the Keeweenaw Peninsula! I thought 2 hours and $35 seemed like a big commitment, but we had a smart knowledgeable Michigan Tech student for a guide and it was so worth the visit. Wear a coat! It is freezing cold, wet and drippy in the mine!
