Downtown Essex is a nice little town right on Lake Champlain with a Ferry that goes to Charlotte Vermont. Mostly everything in Essex outside of Downtown is very rural and agricultural based.

Go to New York for the day! A quick 10 minute car ride to the Charlotte Ferry, 20 minute crossing . You can leave your car on the Charlotte side of the lake , walk on Ferry, walk around Essex. Dine at the Essex Inn ! I recommend to check hours of operation and to make a reservation.
