This golf club is open to the public. I have never been, but my husband has gone with his brothers a couple of times, he is not an avid golfer, but said the course is pretty good.

Lake Gaston Golf Club (public) – 18 holes Although some of these courses are private, they’ll practically always let a presentable person play.
