Milos has many landscapes that combine pure natural beauty and a sense that inspires awe. The Old Sulfur Mines is one of these places. Located in the bay of Paliorema, these abandoned quarries are a remnant of the era that Milos exported sulfur all over the world. And the mines’ ruins is a great historical sight but also renders an particularly gorgeous scenery for the beach that lies next to it. In other words, visiting the Sulfur Mines is an opportunity to combine a relaxing day at the beach with getting to know the history of the island.

The Mining Museum of Milos is located in Adamas, the port of the island and its creation aims to honor and promote the mining history of Milos. In the Museum, objects, images and photographs present the impressive geological peculiarity of Milos and in their own way tell the mining history of the island, paying, at the same time, a minimal tribute to all those who worked and are working for the development of the mine in island, and connecting the past with the present. The building that houses the museum includes the ground floor and the first floor, which constitute the pre-eminent exhibition space, as well as the auxiliary spaces of the basement. On the ground floor, the visitor comes in first contact with the mining history and activity of Milos. A series of photographs, illustrations and paintings illustrate its various stages. The presentation is framed by old and modern geological and topographic maps of the island, various authentic tools and instruments. Also presented are illustrations of the current mining activity and the environmental restoration works. The room on the first floor is dedicated to the presentation of the mineral wealth of Milos. Samples of minerals that dominate the current mining activities of the island are presented in shop windows, along with photographic material and information on how they are processed and their uses. The auxiliary spaces of the basement consist of a room with a capacity of 40 people, equipped with audiovisual media for the projection of videos related to the themes of the Museum and the hosting of events of scientific content, as well as a multipurpose room for educational programs, special exhibitions and other actions / events.
