This is a little known backdoor entrance to Lake Jocassee. It's safe for hikers of all ages and abilities, and a couple detours take visitors almost to the waters edge. Bring your kayak or paddleboard if you're feeling ambitious, but be prepared for a bit of portage before you're able to get your feet wet. There are no amenities so bring your own food and water, and please pack out your trash.

You might need a 4WD or Jeep for this trail, but the view is something else. Even the drive over is fun, you pass several spots and you might not even make it to jumping rock.

You will need an off-road vehicle for this. I have seen a Honda Accord make it but I definitely would not recommend. 2wd is sufficient but need to have higher clearance. Approximately 10 of dirt road but the view is worth it.

Jumping Off Rock is located in the Horse Pasture also know as Jocassee Gorges. This is part of Jim Timmerman Natural Resources Area. SCDNR controls hunting and fishing regulations. This area is open to the public and primitive camping is available. Closed during certain times of year and for road repair work. Address is 1344 Cleo Chapman Highway, Sunset, SC 29685 or search the DNR Public Lands Website.
