At a short 10 min. walk from Casa Mora B&B. Several Catholic churches were built here since 1575, all destroyed by earthquakes until the last attempt to rebuild it was canceled in 1910 after the Santa Monica earthquake. Today Las Ruinas is the perfect backdrop for cultural and social events. Pop Legend: two brothers, a bachelor and a priest, fell in love with the same woman, who married the bachelor, igniting the priest's fury. In 1577, during the New Year's mass, the priest killed his brother, and out of guilt built a church for the city. A year later, an earthquake destroyed the building and every building since, making people believe it was a cursed place.

Las Ruinas de Cartago son los vestigios del inacabado templo parroquial de Santiago Apóstol, situadas en la provincia de Cartago. Están constituidas por los muros y escalinatas de un templo de estilo románico, cuya construcción se inició en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y fue interrumpida como consecuencia del terremoto de Santa Mónica (4 de mayo de 1910),y de otros dos terremotos, cuando la edificación estaba ya en vías de concluirse. En realidad no se trata de ruinas en el sentido histórico, sino de una construcción interrumpida, pero constituyen un sitio de gran interés para los turistas.
