Kimmeridge Bay is one of the most interesting Jurassic Coast beaches. It has very steep steps down from a private car park. Fossils are everywhere and it is an exciting place to explore and picnic with children. The slate cliffs are fragile and it is best to sit well away from them, as they are prone to tumble slate. There is a slate and stone bed to the bay and the tide creates lots of interesting rock pooling.

29 miles: Kimmeridge Bay is located within a marine Special Area of Conservation and has the best rockpooling and safest snorkelling site in Dorset! The Bay is also part of the Jurassic Coast (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and found along the South West Coast Path national walking trail. The Wild Seas Centre beside the slipway encourages all ages to explore the bay, its ledges and rockpools. It is free to go inside and take a look at their exhibitions and small aquarium. They also run various events throughout the year which are great for children and families - why not try eco-friendly crabbing or take part in a rockpool ramble? In summer, a snorkel trail guides swimmers among colourful marine-life in the shallow waters of the Bay.

Beautiful bay, great for windsurfing, very challenging coastal path walks across the jurassic coastline
Our favourite bay... wear hiking boots (rocks are slippery) at low tide spot fossils, ammonites in the rocks, beautiful cliff walks, sunset picnics. Gormley had a sculpture here. Clavells Tower. Location for the film The French Lieutenant's Woman. Surfers check out Magicseaweed dot com for surf reports and webcam. Paying for the car park keeps most of the tourists out but if you go after 4.30pm the car park person has usually gone home.
