Malibu always feels like a respite from the chaos of LA. I hit the restaurant at the end of the pier and write on one of their decks. When I reach capacity, I'll take out my inflatable paddleboard from the back of my car and paddle out for a quick 30 minute break amongst the surfers before coming back to write some more. Poseidon Paddle & Surf has a truck stationed close to the pier. Call and you can rent a paddleboard from them if you want to get in the water.
Fishing. No license required. Relax on the pier and watch the surfers. Parking is hard to find sometimes. Trendiest restaurant in Malibu is next door (Nobu) - need reservations.
The Malibu Pier is a must see. Check out the surfers down below or have a drink and food one of the bars restaurants
Great location to walk out on & to possibly eat at either restaurants located on the pier.
You can eat on the pier or just walk it. You'll have great views of surfers at surfrider beach, an iconic wave in surfing history.
Super busy. The heart of local merchants and Communities. Wonderful place to take a walk and hang out with friends and family. Even meet new friends from different parts of the world. Multiple activities to choose from.
No explanation needed for this place. Malibu is magical. Check out the hikes around this place, some have waterfalls at the end!
Beautiful historical pier with two great restaurants and a cute shop. Great views of the surfers on the Malibu Pier break.

“This beautiful beachfront park is a local gem of a secret. There are people who've lived here alll their lives that don't know about it. It's easy to get to and access. It's a great alternative to the sand. It offers picturesque views of the ocean and lagoon, beautifully manicured gardens, clean bathrooms, and plenty of quiet shade on a sunny day. For a very interesting docent-led tour of the historic home, check the website for times. It costs less than $10/person and it's really worth it to visit inside the home and learn a lot about local history. You can take a picnic inside and sit in any part of the gardens you like. On occasion parts of the property are closed to the public for weddings and private events.”

“Great hike - you can hike to the falls, and then up the hill to get breathtaking (literally) views of the ocean and hike back down to the parking lot. Bring water and sunscreen. ”

“Having taken over Malibu's beloved breakfast spot Coogie's, which closed after 25 years, restaurateur Nate Heydari had some big shoes to fill. And fill them he did with a more farm-to-table approach to all-day fare, a full bar and that quintessential laid-back beach style both inside and out. Proudly boasting local farm purveyors for ingredients, the menu veers from California chia and acai bowls, omelets and huevos rancheros for breakfast, to small plates like kebabs, penne Bolognese, plus big salads, pizzas and burgers for dinner. It's super-popular with the locals.”
