The coast features stunning sculptural formations and tidepools carved out by sea-tossed boulders, providing homes to a rich variety of intertidal marine life. The conditions in tides and temperature create a habitat for species well adapted to the rugged environment, such as sea stars, anemones, chitons, mussels, and snails. Visiting Port Renfrew and not hiking at Botanical Beach would be like visiting New York City and not going to the Statue of Liberty. Botanical Beach and nearby Botany Bay can be accessed at the end of Cerantes Road from the large roundabout parking lot in the Juan de Fuca Provincial Marine Park which includes a great nearby picnic table area.

Botanical beach is yet another world renown beach. You can also start (or finish) the Juan De Fuca trail here. I highly recommend you make it here at low tide to look in the AMAZING tide pools. Or sunset for one of the best sunsets on the south island. You can do the loop which is accessible to all ages or hike a little farther in to adventure some more. Please ensure you are fully prepared in case of emergency - including bear protectants like bear spray or an air horn

1 hr 58 min (112.9 km) via Juan De Fuca Hwy/BC-14 W Botanical Beach is part of the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail and the corresponding Juan de Fuca Provincial Park. Best known for the abundance of life that lives within its sandstone tide pools and rock formations, Botanical Beach provides a habitat for hundreds of species of plants and animals.

Uniquely beautiful tide pools at low tide. Even if you stop at a beach enroute (and never go as far as this spot) you will see wonderful views of the Olympic Mountains and beautiful beaches, some are great surf spots.

One of our favourite spots. Go at low tide for the tide pools
