👉Natural Space Muntanyans part of the Torredembarra and Creixell Beach natural space, included in the Red Natura 2000 (Costas del Tarragonés). Its main value is that it preserves the ecosystem of dunes and marshes (brackish water ponds) that has disappeared in much of the Catalan coast. 👉Ponds of the Sun and Clarà and the adjoining dunes. We approach the ponds that are in front of the oldest human nucleus in Torredembarra: Clarà. In the past, ponds had been transformed into crops (cotton, among others) and during the second half of the 20th century they were used as landfills and rubble. The partial extraction of these discharges has allowed the discovery of the primitive ecosystem, the marshes, now practically disappeared on the Catalan coast. 👉Ponds of the Saler and the adjoining dunes. The Saler pond is the largest in Torredembarra. It did not have a name until the historian Antoni Virgili found it in a document from 1,000 years ago (11th century). This name comes from the salt that was extracted when the pond dried up in summer and the salt crystallized forming a characteristic white layer. Salt was a very valuable product and for many centuries it was used as a means of payment. Hence the word "salary." 👉Baix Mar and cal Bofill. Until the 18th century Torredembarra was a small fortified town, eminently agricultural, but also with a fishing and maritime activity established on the coast in the so-called «Botigues del Mar». These casitas were mostly warehouses where fishing gear was kept and very few were inhabited. In the 19th century, the Botigues will make up the Barri de la Marina (Barrio de la Marina) or Baix a Mar, politically and religiously linked to Clarà. 👉The Torredembarra cliff. From Canyadell beach we will walk along the rocks towards the Torredembarra lighthouse, with the sea on our right. Torredembarra historic center. The passage of history has left in Torredembarra numerous buildings full of meaning. The old town has a great architectural and artistic wealth that makes it an excellent corner to take a cultural tour of the wall, the castle 🏰, the parish church of Sant Pere⛪, the Torre de la Vila or the Antoni Roig building.
