The Talimena Scenic drive winds 54 miles along the crest of Rich Mountain and Winding Stair Mountain in the Ouachita National Forest (pronounced Wash-i-tah). If you can resist stopping to enjoy the many vistas and attractions along the way, the route takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to drive. A leisurely drive can take all day. From your cabin it is about 75 miles north on Hwy. 259. Beautiful scenery with Hwy 1 running along the top of the mountains. When going east where it intersects with Hwy 259 N, there is also Queen Wilhelmina Restaurant & Hotel that is nice to stop at. Continue east & at the end is Mena, Arkansas. From Mena can go to DeQueen, Arkansas, then to Broken Bow, OK. It makes a big circle to enjoy seeing some of Arkansas. The Talimena Scenic Byway is a drive that you don't want to miss! Fall colors usually begin the 2nd to 3rd week in October.
