This is the oldest operating jazz club in the world—not the United States, the world! It looks like something straight out of The Godfather—white linens, very dark, very intimate. I swear, you can still feel guys like John Coltrane, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington in here. There’s a very communal U-shaped bar, and the food is absolutely phenomenal. Do yourself a favor and go with the fried chicken and a side order of cabbage.
This is the oldest and coolest jazz club in the US. Absolutely a must experience. There is a parking, but be safe - take a Lyft or Uber.
The oldest live jazz spot in the city. The soul food is the perfect compliment to the great music!
Claims to be the world's oldest operating jazz club. Strong drinks and soul food. Get there early on the weekends.

“This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Southeast Michigan! It’s home to an extensive array of Motown artifacts, photos and other memorabilia. The museum is a testimony to Motowns legacy and to the charisma, talent and staying power of the music and those who made it. ”

“75 years old, run by the same family that founded it (almost all women, as well), it is the uncontested crown jewel of donut places in the area. Open 24 hours, but go early or late at night to snap up the best stuff, still warm. My personal favorites are the blueberry sourdough donuts, and the glazed donut holes, but all the basics are there (no apple fritters, unfortunately) and are always undeniably the best. A remarkably diverse clientele (as in, Birmingham old money, neighborhood families, hipsters, and the homeless) is evidence that this place is the real deal. Whatever that means.”

“Incredible live music venue. Built in the 1920's, Cliff Bell's saw the roaring 20's and was a part of the burgeoning scene in the Paris of the West. Mahogany detailing and vintage crescent booth seating, this venue laid dormant and was re-opened with much applause later in the century. It is now a great scene for live music and wonderful entertainment.”
