“You can't visit Santiago without checking out the Museum of Memory and Human Rights. It's an absolute must! The museum focuses on the coup of 1973, the dictatorship and the thousands of Chilean people who were tortured and "disappeared" during the Pinochet regime. The impact of the dictatorship is still very much felt amongst the population in current day Chile and this museum will give you a greater understanding of why and how Chilean society became what it is today. It's an incredibly interesting and very well put together museum. There is an audio guide available for a small cost, which I highly recommend. You could spend half a day here if you want to read everything but it is quite heavy and thought-provoking, don't forget to take some tissues.”
