The Barbados Concorde is 1 of 20 turbojet-powered supersonic passenger jet airliners, exquisitely built featuring a maximum speed over twice the speed of sound at Mach 2.04. In 1976 until 2003 for 27 years, only 16 Concorde crafts were ever used for commercial flights by British Airways and Air France combined, with a seating capacity for 92 to 128 passengers. Concorde flew regular transatlantic flights between London, Paris, New York, Washington and Barbados, flying these routes in less than half the time of other airliners. To give you an idea of the speed of a Concorde, an average flight from London to Barbados takes 8 hours, the Concorde did this same flight in half the time. The fasted recorded time of that very flight by a Concorde was at 3 hours and 46 minutes. On what, most persons considered was the fastest aircraft commercial flight services in the world, passengers paid a lovely figure of £8000.00 for a 4 hour flight. The remaining aircrafts retired from service can be found parked at airports and museums around the world. Barbados was one of a few countries that the Concorde flew to on a weekly basis. When the flights ceased Barbados became home for one of the few airplanes. Tours can be had where you can tour the plane and sit in the cockpit while detailed information is given on the airplanes and their flight details.
