I haven't gotten a chance to take the tour of the US Capitol building but I've been told by everyone who has gone on it that it is awesome and better than the short one you get if you are able to get a tour of the Executive Mansion (The White House). The outside grounds are pretty.

“You can tour the White House, the iconic home of America’s president, by scheduling a visit in advance. Even if you are unable to schedule a visit, walk around to the back to get a closer view of the building.”

“Probably one of the most overlooked Smithsonian museums. I like it because it’s interesting and quick. You can be in and out in 30-45 min, check out the Gutenberg bible.”

“Eastern Market is a historic market, built in 1873 as part of Pierre L’Enfant’s design for the city to include local neighborhood markets throughout the city. The architect of Eastern Market, Adolph Cluss, was the same architect who designed the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building (the Smithsonian “castle” on the Mall!). The Market is open daily from 7am – 7pm (closed on Monday), and includes vendors who sell fresh local fish, meats, cheeses, flowers, and local goods. The big draw for the Market, however, is the weekend artisan market in which hundreds of DC’s local artists and crafters set up tents to sell their beautiful and artsy products. 7th street is closed down and it is a lot of fun! The artisan market is from 9am – 5pm each Saturday and Sunday. The Market Lunch is a cafe in the Market that serves a great breakfast - be sure to check it out! The “blue bucks” pancakes (blueberry buckwheat pancakes) are amazing and “the brick” is their famous breakfast sandwich.”
