Beautiful old town, only 45 minutes away from the Quinta. Lots of old charm and culture. A must do is visiting the old library of the University of Coimbra. Perfect for lunches and dinners and to discover Portuguese fado!

Coimbra, the medieval university city, is around 40 minutes away. Granted UNESCO world heritage status, Coimbra University is the oldest in Portugal and one of the oldest in Europe. During the 18th century it defined the character of the city as a student town, on the urban, architectural, artistic and social levels. (www.coimbraportugalguide.com/index.html)

Riverfront city in central Portugal and once the country’s former capital. Includes a preserved medieval old town and the historic University of Coimbra. Built on the grounds of a former palace, the university is famed for its baroque library, the Biblioteca Joanina, and its 18th-century bell tower. In the city’s old town lies the 12th-century Romanesque cathedral Sé Velha.
