This McDowell Sonoran Preserve hike is roughly 6.5 miles of moderate hiking, though the last .2 miles to the summit can certainly be categorized as difficult. The whole way up you’ll follows signs for Sunrise Trailhead and Sunrise Peak, and on the way down you’ll follow signs for the Lost Dog Wash Trailhead. If you choose not to hike the final bit to the summit you can turn around at the saddle which will take .4 miles off your total hike distance. The views from the top of Fountain Hills and Scottsdale are breathtaking however. You might even catch the Fountain Hills fountain shooting up in the distance if it happens to be running when you reach the summit.

This area of the McDowell Mountains is about 25 mins driving from the Old Town Townhome but offers a variety of trails and difficulties. There’s also a restroom and water fountain at the trailhead.
