Villa Spada, with adjoining park, stands on the ancient estate of the Zambeccari marquises. Of this building in neoclassical style the date of construction is not known, but since it seems almost certainly attributable to Giovanni Batista Martinetti, present in Bologna since 1774, could be dated to the period when the estate was owned by Jacopo Zambeccari who died in 1795. The villa remained the property of the Zambeccari until 1811 and after a few steps in 1820 it was purchased by the Duchess Marianna of Beaufort, wife of Prince Clemente Spada, who expanded the property until Via Zaragoza. Since then the villa has remained famous by the name of the Spada. On the southern facade of the villa you can admire the coat of arms of this family. In May 1849 the villa became the headquarters of the Austrians, hosting the governorship, the state trial and the war council. The last owners, the Pisa , in the sixties gave it to the City of Pisa Since 1990 the villa houses the Textile and Upholstery Museum "Vittorio Zironi". In the park there is also the library of Quartiere Oriano Tassinari Clò, with about 50,000 volumes and university texts, over 6,000 children’s books and audiovisual material. The original garden of the villa is spread over terraces with Italian flower beds, connected by masonry stairs. The area, which was once used for cultivated fields, now includes grassy areas and patches of trees that almost frame the views of the old town that can be admired........................................................................................... Un grande parco ed un giardino all’italiana su una collina dalla cima della quale si può godere di una bellissima vista del centro storico bolognese. A large park and an Italian garden on a hill from the top of which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the historic center of Bologna.
