Our favorite places for food in La Crosse
Great place to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy either a savory or sweet crepe. At night, it becomes a music venue serving up tasty microbrews and a variety of music. Tuesday = jazz night, Wednesday = Open Mic Other days of the week = lots of great music Check here for current music schedule http://driftmore.com/TheRootNote

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in La Crosse. They do a wonderful job with sauces- love the Queso Crema Chicken. Unfortunately, their seating area is tiny. Often, we will call in our order and enjoy it at home.

Newest Mexican restaurant in La Crosse...We love the $5 lunch menu that is offered Monday-Friday.
Señor Villa

We love the Mon-Fri lunch soup and salad buffet- all you can eat for $10. Dinner specialties include center cut steaks, flown in fresh seafood and center cut pork chops that are prepared in a smoker stoked with Hickory wood from the surrounding bluffs. Enjoy live Blues Bands every Fri and Sat 8:00-11:30 in the Blues Lounge. Right in the center of the La Crosse's art venues. Make sure to check out the mural on the side of the Pump House. Our new community theater is kiddie corner from Piggy's. Enjoy a walk along the river before or after dinner; the path starts between the Courtyard Marriot and the community theater.

This restaurant has the best outdoor seating right on the Mississippi. And, they even open it in February if the temperatures reach the 50s. Unfortunately, they don't take reservations for the patio but you may just get lucky. They have a fabulous happy hour with $5 burgers, 2-1 house wines and $3 pints (Monday-Thursday). Although they occasionally offer $5 burgers, this is one of La Crosse's fine dining restaurants. http://www.thewaterfrontlacrosse.com/

Located in a former candy factory that opened in 1898 - this is La Crosse's newest and only boutique hotel. Their restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have not yet eaten there but I have enjoyed their rooftop terrace. (closed November-?) Head up there for a cocktail and get a great view of the city. Check their website for rooftop terrace hours. http://www.thecharmanthotel.com They also have an impressive coffee area, called the parlour- located to the right when you walk in. Great place to enjoy a good cup of coffee and pastry. Located right by Riverside park- enjoy a walk along the Mississippi after your visit.

Amazing selection of loose leaf tea to take home or drink there. You will also want to try the bubble tea! Kids especially love the tapioca balls in the bottom of the drink. Also offered is dim sum (small Chinese dishes to share). We love the veggie dumplings. Not your standard chinese food- no fryers here, most items are steamed.

Located right across from UWL, this restaurant serves breakfast and lunch. We usually go there for breakfast (which is served all day) and really enjoy the B.Y.O.B- Build your own Breakfast...which really lets you tailor your breakfast to your exact tastes. Gluten options are available. We also love the omelettes and pancakes made with Pearl St. Brewery's Downtown Brown. With a full bar and vast menu, this is the place that will make both the burger lover and veggie lover happy. Search for them on Facebook to see their menu.

The best thing about this restaurant is that you can walk to it. At the corner of our street & State Rd/Hwy 33, Schmidty's is a favorite among locals. Even if you don't go to eat, you could walk there for a beverage to experience a neighborhood Wisconsin tavern. Neighbors & friends gather here & everyone is always very welcoming. This is Wisconsin! Order a local beer, Pearl Street Brewery, or try an Old Fashion sweet. The restaurant features typical Wisconsin food- nothing too spicy or exciting (imo). Good size salad bar and Friday night fish fry are popular. They also have a nice outdoor patio. Open for lunch and dinner everyday. Sunday brunch. Look for their to-go menu in the cottage.

I love all the John Hugh's movie related decor. This is a breakfast all day place that includes a full-bar with 16 beers on tap and great bloody marys. I really enjoyed the Florentine omelette on my last visit. Located right downtown on Main St. They are open 7 am to 4 pm.

A must visit for anyone visiting La Crosse. This is an authentic 1930′s soda fountain and confectionery. All their ice cream is made in shop. You can smell the homemade waffle cones when you enter. I especially love the cappuccino oreo ice cream. Wonderful sidewalk seating. The ice cream parlor is connected to a coffee shop, art shop, Wisconsin souvenir shop and a brand new fudge/candy shop. From here, you can walk down to the Mississippi River if you head West or stroll around the downtown shops.

This is one of my favorite cafes downtown. Their breakfast sandwiches, especially the 308 egg sandwich and Tuscan sunrise, are simply delicious. They have great patio to enjoy your sandwich and coffee while watching downtown La Crosse in action. They now also serve beer and are open into the evening. Watch for their food truck called Apothik, always a treat!

La Crosse's original coffeehouse!!! Great coffee, excellent scones, and soups (mushroom bisque is my fav) made in house. This coffee house even makes their own Italian syrups. As an added bonus, it is attached to Pearl St. Books, a used book store. Books and coffee- always a great pairing!
