Tony Angello’s, which had been around for over four decades, was so well-loved that the Rizzuto’s team had to approach the new restaurant very carefully. According to the report, they kept a “few dishes that reference the old Tony Angello’s repertoire” on the menu, but not any that they felt they could not execute as well as their predecessor. The ones that made the cut are “brisket and tomato salad, crab gravy, marinated mushrooms and a version of eggplant Tina, a stack of breaded eggplant called eggplant Valentina.” The restaurant’s layout hasn’t changed, but the renovation made it brighter.

LUNCH - Founded by Frank Manale in 1913, this seafood-centric family friendly eatery is beloved and with good reason. Pascal's Manale is known for fabulous value and copious portions of fresh New Orleans-style Creole Italian dishes, homestyle specialties (liver and onions anyone?) and dishes like the swoon-worthy barbecue shrimp swimming in a buttery Worcestershire-spiked sauce, a recipe that hasn't changed since 1954. If it's on special at lunch, order the combination pan roast, a seasoned blend of puréed shrimp, oysters, and crab baked with bread crumbs on top, a creamy casserole that makes an incredibly tasty dip with French bread. The raw oysters are always a good idea.

LUNCH - Truburger is an Oak Street burger joint located by the Riverbend in Uptown New Orleans. All the beef comes in fresh from Creekstone Farms in Kansas, ground in-house for that not-your-average-burger mouth feel. There is also a veggie burger made in house. Pick your bun filler (gluten-free buns are available if you wish) then add tangy Tru sauce and veggies, or spin out with extras like a fried egg or avocado. The shakes are thick and delish, fresh cut fries a thing of beauty, especially with a dousing of TwoRun gravy when they've got it. This place isn't on your diet ok? But order the housemade poppers anyway, they're the bomb.

LUNCH - Midway Pizza on Freret Street touts itself as Uptown's only deepdish and they've got a point. Baked Chicago-style, with lots of toothsome crust filled with creative toppings, the pizza menu sports inventive choices like the Reggie Dunlop with gorgonzola, prosciutto and pickled red onion and the King Creole topped with marinated Gulf shrimp and a tangy creole sauce. This is New Orleans, so Midway also features a full bar with great local drafts, wine and specialty cocktails. Stop by for lunch, dinner or take-out and prepare to be impressed. The Mexican wrestler theme sets a fun, offbeat vibe to the place.

LUNCH - Dat Dog is located on the burgeoning Freret Street in Uptown New Orleans. The joint is colorfully clad, features indoor/outdoor dining and a full bar. Their "dogs" are supremely unique. First, pick your meat type: polish sausage, brat, red hot, crawdog, etc. Then, choose toppings, which range from your typical chili and cheese, to the absurd. Often times, live music is played outdoors on the string lighted patio. If not, plenty of televisions are available for sport/event viewing. Unlike a lot of places around town, there is plenty of space at Dot Dog (even at the bar), so feel free to bring your whole posse for lunch/dinner/drinks.

And more than that, Singleton, who has spent the past decade working at restaurants including Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, is also a partner with owner Craig Napoli, whose seafood business assures the freshest gulf catch on the seafood-centric menu. QUARTER DINNER -This quaint little neighborhood spot perfectly exemplifies what makes the French Quarter so special: even on its boundary streets, you're bound to find something that will charm and surprise. Though locals usually occupy the tables at Meauxbar each night, these snug yet easygoing quarters welcome all-comers. Framed photos, mirrors, burnished wood floors and moody lighting reinforce the bistro concept, and seating is available both at tables and at the bar. Another bonus is that conversation is welcome (and audible) at this intimate space, making date night especially romantic. But of course, it's the cookery that truly sets the place apart

GD DINNER - Victorian facade of Commander's Palace in the Garden District of New Orleans has been the site of five-star dining since 1880, and a hallmark of the Brennan family since 1974. DINNER - Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans, right off the St. Charles Streetcar line, the Upperline is a great reason to explore past the French Quarter, and experience a contemporary take on Creole cuisine. The dining room is presided over by owner and hospitality doyenne JoAnn Clevenger, who won a James Beard Award as outstanding restaurateur in the U.S. in 2017 and welcomes one and all like family. Chef Trent Osborne took over the kitchen a few years ago and is walking just the right balance between respecting the timeless dishes that regulars crave and bringing new inspired creations to the table. The drum piquant with hot & hot shrimp will never leave the menu.

MARIGNY DINNER - Polished elegance isn't a bellwether of the restaurants in the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods in New Orleans. Intimate and inviting, this restaurant lives in New Orleans but would be at home in any big city. Chef Baruch Rabasa forgoes traditional New Orleans fare for a menu that is both modern and French inspired. Most of the small plates are intriguing, especially slices of tender rare filet served ala mode with foie gras ice cream. Oysters are available raw or grilled with garlic butter or fried with a luscious white remoulade on the side. There is an interesting (and pricey) wine list as well as a fine array of craft cocktails.

Portions are large, so start by sharing an entree unless you're famished. More vegetarian than vegan, you'll find fresh, healthful takes on Mexican dishes and plenty of veg to keep you smiling

LUNCH - Located in a green, historical renovation of an 1891 Greek Revival home on Oretha Castle Haley, the quickly changing arts corridor in Central City, Casa Borrega is a fantastic little taco bar. LUNCH - Inviting and elegant, this hotel dining room is a jewel in the Windsor Court Hotel's crown. Adorned with flowers, graceful chandeliers, rich materials, and focal-point murals, the Grill is New Orlean's one of only two Mobil Four Star-accredited restaurants. The cuisine changes seasonally but features incredible dishes like grilled foie gras and lobster, panko crusted veal chops, and a Gulf seafood stew. Monday through Saturday you can order a meat and three gourmet plate lunch for just $19.84, a nod to the hotel's opening. Add $2 martinis made with Tito's Vodka or Plymouth Gin and you may not go back to work.

LUNCH - New Orleanians are not only loyal to this traditional bastion of Creole dining, they're loyal to their waiter, and if they're old enough, to their waiter's son. Generations come and go, but Galatoire's, with its classic seafood-centric menu focused on in-season fish and shellfish treated to artful preparations like trout meuniere, shrimp remoulade and oysters Rockefeller. Not only can your order well known local fish like drum, redfish and pompano, you can also get the sweet goodness of sheepshead and lemon fish if the waters are right. This French Creole palace is a definitive New Orleans experience, but remember, gents need a jacket after dark

LUNCH - Silk Road has come a long way since the days when it was a ramshackle neighborhood joint called Schiro's. Situated in the Marigny rectangle, the newly renovated restaurant, with its eye-popping art and handsome bar, is a hidden gem, polished beyond expectation. Chef Ganesh Ayyengar pays homage to his homeland with red curries from the South of India, along with spicy vindaloos popular in the west and tikka masala creamy with ghee. Heat can be adjusted to your taste, with a choice of chicken, or veg, all value priced. There's a super veg platter (tamarind chick peas, lentils, curried seasonal vegges) and also a slew of local faves like blackened drum and jambalaya.

DRINK - Snake and Jake's is the preeminent dive-bar in New Orleans, and maybe the world. Housed in what seems to be a tiny battered down shack in the middle of Uptown, this place is great to go to in the wee hours of the morning, when you could care less who or what you are surrounded by. Schlitz is the beer of choice here, and interesting characters make up the entire population of this joint. It is definitely advised to come here with someone who knows the area or has at least been to "Snakes" before. Just look for the Christmas lights on an aluminum sided shack on Oak Street and you'll know you found the spot.

SEAFOOD - The Mid-City Yacht Club is the ultimate neighborhood bar and come Fridays starting at 4pm during the season, around 320 mudbugs go into the boil. Order a heaping plate of crawfish for $6 with plenty of fixings on the side. There is a wide selection of beers on tap on in the can, ideal pairing with these spicy bites. If there's a game being played, it's on the flat screens and the crowd is always friendly. There's not yacht in sight, by the way, although for a brief time this place was waterfront property after Hurricane Katrina. Look up neighborhood bar in the dictionary, and chances are Mid-City Yacht Club will be there

WATCH THE GAME -Tracey's was the original bar in the Irish Channel, opened in 1949 with new fangled comforts like air conditioning - a rarity back in the day. Also the first in the 'hood with color TV, Tracey's drew local crowds from the start. DANCE - MONDAYS ARE BEST Before St. Claude Avenue was "cool," before there were restaurants opening every other week along this Bywater stretch, the Saturn was there. There's a great juke box and live music on a regular basis, but the real night to dance like a fool is the monthly Saturday night Mod Dance Party - an evening of 60s swagger powered by DJ Matty and DJ Kristen, who stick to a soundtrack of solely vinyl from the period. Put on some lashes, tease the hair and done your best pucci knock off mini-dress, and you'll fit right in. The view from the upstairs balcony is killer.

DANCE - Siberia is an alt music venue that rises to the top of the dive bar heap in a city that may just have invented the genre. Like most things New Orleans, Siberia has multiple personalities. JAZZ - Traditional jazz music emanates nightly from the Palm Court Jazz Cafe on Decatur, not far from the French Market. The ambiance is classic and the house musicians, who most likely have been playing for decades, start at 8pm. The decor features exposed brick walls, tiled floors and a decadently attractive mahogany bar. This is the place banjo talent Danny Barker praised in his song "Palm Court Strut." DANCE - This chill venue situated on the Canal Street streetcar line is a locals' fave thanks to its eclectic line up, great food and grown up vibe. Expect an older crowd of mostly locals since not too many tourists find their way to this friendly club, even though it's not hard to find. If you're lucky, award winning UK blues pianist Jon Cleary, who lives in the neighborhood, will be playing his regular Tuesday gig. Showtimes are generally on the earlier side than you'll find elsewhere, and often there's one artist early on and another at 10 or 11 pm. VOODOO - Harry Potter would be right at home in this teeny tiny French Quarter landmark with its oddball displays of gris-gris (voodoo charms), potions and all kinds of memorabilia pertaining to Voodoo queen Marie Laveau, a 19th century priestess and one of New Orleans' most colorful characters. Ask about scheduled rituals and guided tours to spiritually charged haunts. And yes, spells and voodoo dolls are for sale. Marie Laveau's tomb is said to be in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, but you'll need a guide to get in, a relatively new development in place because Laveau's fans had a habit of regularly defacing her grave
