Food Scene
Recently Detroit has been known to have become a foodie scene. With cheaper property cost, plenty of space to grow and an increasing amount of people moving back to the city, Detroit seems to have new restaurants popping up each month. Try looking up Best New Detroit Restaurants from Eater to stay even more up to date.
When this place first opened it was really overhyped and waiting times would be hours long. The hype has kind of died down, I don't think it's the absolute best BBQ I've had but I still think it is a Detroit essential.

Another great Mexican restaurant on the outskirts of Mexicantown that has decent prices and large portions. The menu is borderline intimidating with the amount of different dishes to choose from.

If you want to get away from the more touristy restaurants in Mexicantown, I would recommend this place where many locals go. They are known for their smoked and seasoned chicken; you can see and smell the smoke from the outdoor kitchen wafting down the street.

In Detroit, it's either Lafayette Coney Island or American Coney Island. These 24 hr, cash only coneys have been competing for years. As for the quality of food, the atmosphere and the crowd, I choose Lafayette every time.

This place recently reopened after a true David vs Goliath situation. None of the buildings surrounding the bar were there a couple years ago but when they were being built, construction workers cracked the side of the UFO Factory "accidentally", nearly knocking a whole exterior brick wall down. It was more widely known that the developers wanted the land and were most likely trying to put the local favorite out of business so it could be torn down and built on. UFO fought back and won millions of dollars in a settlement and reopened after being closed for a year.

Nowadays, people just hang out front in Roosevelt Park and take pictures. More recently, Ford Motor company did what evening thought somebody night do eventually, and bought the giant building and is in the process spending millions of dollars fixing it up to be used once again.

Don't venture west of Grand River Avenue though, that is the border of our neighborhood and things can get rough pretty quick in Core City neighborhood.

The last game ever played in the stadium was in 1999. Go see what is left of the grounds which is basically just a flag pole. It is currently in the process of being turned into a neighborhood ballpark.

Expanding and improving every year, the Riverwalk is happening in the summer. It features great views, fishing, parks and food, it will eventually connect Downtown to Belle Isle but is about 3/4 there at the moment.

A hidden gem in Detroit. There is an aquarium and conservatory, but this entire island is a big park where you can bike or have a picnic. You can also rent kayaks, play racquetball and other funtivities. There are beaches to swim as well. You will get one of the best views of Detroit, the Ambassador Bridge and Windsor from the west side of the Island.

During the warmed seasons, they have huge parties with hundreds of people in a truly Detroit fashion that last until daybreak.
