Delicious! This is the best Thai food in Rochester - winning the "Best of" award 4 years in a row! Love the vegetable pad-thai, with 1-2 peppers. MMM Great lunch specials - try the lemon grass soup.

Rochester Local Brews with a great outdoor eating space overlooking Rochester's High Falls. Typical bar food, but worth checking out. If you've never had one - and chances are you haven't - try a white hot while you're in town. (Served here and everywhere else) Why are they white? White Hots are made from uncured and unsmoked pork, beef, and veal; the lack of smoking or curing allows the meat to retain a naturally white color.

It's going to sound weird, but this Rochester staple is must have! The "GARBAGE PLATE" isn't appealing by name, but it's amazing once you take a bite! At first you will stumble upon this culinary creation after a late night on the town, when nothing else is open... but then you will start eating it for regular meals like lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is a blend of industrial-sheik and cozy. Although this sounds contradictory, they've done a great job integrating steel beams, beautiful wood, and candle light. The food is served family style, because you are meant to try and enjoy everything that comes to the table. They recommend that you order 2 dishes for two people, unless it was the burger which is an entire pound and easily split. We really enjoyed the duck.

It's going to sound weird, but this Rochester staple is must have... The "GARBAGE PLATE" isn't appealing by name, but it's amazing once you take a bite! At first you will stumble upon this culinary creation after a late night on the town, when nothing else is open... but then you will start eating it for regular meals like lunch and dinner. What is it?! Standard garbage plates will be served over potatoes and mac salad with your choice of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, chicken fingers, or sausage, all smothered in onions and "hot sauce" which in Rochester is a spicy, meat sauce and is good on just about everything. (Try it on eggs!)

Buying single-estate beans and carrying many Fair-Trade certified varieties, Java's supports environmentally-sound growing practices by carrying over a dozen varieties of organic beans. They also purchase all of their milk from a local dairy farm in Pittsford, NY. Java's has funky art hanging on the walls - there's even a shark dropped down from the ceiling! Their atmosphere is a funky blend of comfort and hipster.

Excellent coffee and ambience. Perfect for a lazy weekend cup of coffee. The matcha latte has a good balance between milk and matcha (powdered green tea), but the regular latte is more popular, possibly because it actually has coffee in it. ;) Heart shaped coffee art may adorn your latte, so don't be surprised if you fall in love with Glen Edith.

Cafe Sasso is practically next door to Glen Edith, and yet they are distinctly different. The decor features artwork by Rochester locals and the ambiance is set with the well placed candles. Alongside traditional coffee options, you will find alcohol infused cocktails offered all day. The service here is wonderful and the baristas are friendly. Enjoy a latte!

This brewery is located on the Erie Canal adjacent to great walking paths, shops, and restaurants. If you're a fan of IPA's try their double, called Mule Fuel. If not, no worries, there are usually seasonal ales that vary their flavor profile. Live music is frequent, mellow, and usually filled with talent.

Filled with British Charm! They host trivia (the toughest in town) on Monday nights, have authentic dart boards with real darts, British working students as wait-staff, and the best fish and chips in Rochester. Many beers on tap and CASK! I love their original brew, the O.T.20 - a double IPA. Centrally located for other endeavors, a great place to sit down and throw a few back.

It's right next door! Genesee Valley Park has tons of bike trails, connects to the canal path, the Leigh High Valley Trail, and the Genesee Riverway Trail. This is also a great place to fly a kite, RC Plane, or watch commercial and private planes fly overhead. Olmsted highlighted the the naturally occurring, rolling pastoral fields of the area when he planned the 800+ acre park. A favorite spot for golfers, crew teams, kayakers, and cross-country skiers, Genesee Valley Park is one of the oldest parks in the area.

The elevation changes throughout this park make for a challenging run, great sledding, and a really fun (frisbee) Disc Golf course! Alan's favorite, Hole 12 is the signature hole. A 500-foot bomb off the top of a steep hill! The wind really comes into play here. Many people throw more than one disc just to watch them fly. Although Disc Golf is the main attraction for us, Ellison Park also houses an off-leash dog park! They do require you to be a member to bring your pup, but often friendly dog owners will let you in, need be.

Entering the park for the first time is exciting, as you walk through a historic tunnel that was constructed by the New York Central Railroad in 1882. Follow Allens Creek as it tumbles over the first of three small waterfalls in the Glen. Be sure to walk around the entire park. Being only 17.7 acres, it doesn't take much effort. If you are daring, hike up the cliff next to the creek for a great view.

Visit the Wild Wings Nature Center to see birds and other local animals being rehabilitated. While you're there you can buy birdseed to hand-feed local Chikadees, NutHatches, and the Tufted TitMouse.

The High Falls are one of three voluminous waterfalls on the Genesee River, that flow through the city. The High Falls area was the site of much of Rochester's early industrial development, where industry was powered by falling water. Browns race diverts water from above the falls and was used to feed various flour mills and industries, (which made Rochester the "Flour City") today the water is used to produce hydroelectric power.

George Eastman Museum is the former resplendent home of Eastman Kodak founder, George Eastman, from 1905 to his death in 1932. Upon his death, the house was donated to the University of Rochester and was the home of University dignitaries until the end of World War II. The house then became a Museum of Photography (originally George Eastman House Museum of Photography), housing a fantastic collection of not only photographic art, but also ephemera, movie memorabilia, and movie prints. Today, George Eastman Museum is one of the world's leading institutions in photographic preservation and conservation. RMSC permanent exhibits offer visitors unique, interactive educational experiences. For example, the Science on a Sphere exhibit is an interactive globe and three-dimensional data projection system that changes real-time data from Earth and other planets into graphic representations. Permanent Simulator Rides include a submarine dive to the bottom of Lake Ontario and a hurricane simulator. The Inventor Center allows visitors participate in different main problem-solving challenges that are presented every four to five months, while Electricity Theater is a science show that features a display of indoor bolts of musical lightning produced by twin solid-state Tesla coils. Illumination: The World of Light and Optics is a permanent exhibit that features interactive opportunities to learn about reflection, refraction, radio waves, color temperature, etc. The museum also teaches about local history in the exhibits such as The American Civil War: The Impact of the Industrial Revolution, Flight to Freedom: Rochester’s Underground Railroad and At the Western Door. Outside of the museum, the Regional Green Infrastructure Showcase teaches about the benefits of capturing and controlling stormwater runoff and green infrastructure in general.[1] Visitors can also look forward to new, exciting experiences each year through the traveling and temporary exhibits at the RMSC. In the past, these have included Frogs: A Chorus of Colors, Da Vinci—The Genius, DINOSAURS, Math Midway and Alien Worlds and Androids.

The story of Susan B. Anthony’s lifelong struggle to gain voting rights for women is shared at her National Historic Landmark home, where she resided during the 40 most politically active years of her life. This is also the site of her famous arrest for voting in 1872. This home was the headquarters of the National American Woman Suffrage Association when Anthony was its president. This is also where she died in 1906 at age 86, following her "Failure is Impossible" speech.

This is not only Lake Ontario's oldest surviving lighthouse, but also the oldest ACTIVE lighthouse. (United States Coast Guard Light List as light number 2333) The tower was constructed in 1822 on a hill just West of the Genesee River and is 40 feet high with an additional 12 feet of height for the lantern room. There are 42 steps and then an 11 rung ladder that takes you to the top. Here you will experience a beautiful panorama view of the surrounding area. A good stop to combine with a visit to Charlotte Beach/Ontario Beach Park.

This is the largest and most comprehensive living history museum in New York State and maintains the third-largest collection of historic buildings in America. The 700-acre complex consists of 68 historic structures furnished with 15,000 artifacts to provide an authentic, 19th-century environment in which visitors can interact with knowledgeable, third-person historic interpreters in period-appropriate dress. Among the buildings preserved in the historic village are Col. Nathaniel Rochester’s house and George Eastman’s childhood home. Alan and Kelly LOVE this place, as they host numerous events year-round. It is a bit outside of Rochester but worth the drive if you have the time.
