Just a couple of kilometres down the road toward Waihi Beach, you'll find this recently created bird sanctuary. It's a pleasant half hour stroll around the wetlands. Parking area just off Steele Road.

You'll find lovely Anzac Bay at the Bowentown Heads, and there's a 15 minute walk through the bush to pristine Shelly Bay. Both are great swimming areas. Hike down to tidal Cave Bay or up to the Trig.

An easy trail from the northern end of Waihi Beach with spectacular scenery! Takes about 45 minutes to reach Orokawa Bay. Not recommended for swimming due to tidal rips, however a nice picnic spot!

Waihi's huge open pit Martha Mine is open to the public with an education centre. Mine tours are available from the iCentre. You can walk around the pit rim for a bit of exercise, too!
