Food Scene
(5 min walk) Great, traditional TexMex neighborhood restaurant just a couple blocks away on Haskell. Very down-to-earth - more like Austin than Dallas. Stays open LATE - 2 a.m. Tue-Sat, midnight Sun and Mon. Ebar Queso, Jorge's Tacos and the Grilled Shrimp Tacos are my favorites. Margaritas are solid. Expect a slight wait after 6:30p, particularly on the weekends.

(5 min walk) Need a Pho fix? This is your place. The real deal. Family owned and nothing fancy. Just really good Vietnamese food at good prices. Love their egg rolls! A short 5-7 minute walk away.

(5 min walk) Great Thai food, a 5-7 minute walk away. Love their Tom Kha soup! There are a few other places I'd recommend if you want to drive somewhere. But this place is good in general and hard to beat when you just want to walk somewhere close by.

Bangkok City Restaurant
4301 Bryan St(5 min walk) Great Thai food, a 5-7 minute walk away. Love their Tom Kha soup! There are a few other places I'd recommend if you want to drive somewhere. But this place is good in general and hard to beat when you just want to walk somewhere close by.
(15 min walk) Very good breakfast tacos if you need a nearby fix. Their jalapeno ranch salsa is addictive. Good for lunch too, but be aware they close at 3 p.m. and aren't open on Sundays.

Parks & Nature
($5ish Uber ride) Simply a gem. Go. You won't be disappointed. All the art museums are walkable from this central hub connecting Harwood, Uptown and Downtown Dallas. There are frequently concerts and other live events. From food trucks to some of Dallas' nicest restaurants, it's all right there. A bus right next to my place will get you there in 15 minutes. Or you can walk there in 30.

2012 Woodall Rodgers Fwy($5ish Uber ride) Simply a gem. Go. You won't be disappointed. All the art museums are walkable from this central hub connecting Harwood, Uptown and Downtown Dallas. There are frequently concerts and other live events. From food trucks to some of Dallas' nicest restaurants, it's all right there. A bus right next to my place will get you there in 15 minutes. Or you can walk there in 30.

A 20-minute walk from my place, DART will get you to/from DFW Airport.

($7ish Uber ride) Best theater in Dallas. Period. Good food and drink (while you watch!), friendly staff and a NO TOLERANCE policy for talking/texting in the theater. Which, for me at least, is huge. The view from their 2nd floor bar is AMAZING. Almost as good as my roof deck... Ok, maybe better. :)

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
1005 S Lamar St($7ish Uber ride) Best theater in Dallas. Period. Good food and drink (while you watch!), friendly staff and a NO TOLERANCE policy for talking/texting in the theater. Which, for me at least, is huge. The view from their 2nd floor bar is AMAZING. Almost as good as my roof deck... Ok, maybe better. :)

Comfortable seats and you can bring in a bottle of wine from the bar to go with your popcorn. Tons of restaurants and boutique shops right next door.

3699 McKinney Ave($5ish Uber ride) My 2nd favorite pick, and a good option if you want to walk around Uptown, one of Dallas' trendier neighborhoods. They show a combination of blockbuster and indie films. Comfortable seats and you can bring in a bottle of wine from the bar to go with your popcorn. Tons of restaurants and boutique shops right next door.

It's right next door. Along with being a pharmacy, they have a small selection of grocery items. Including dangerously good Talenti Gelato. You've been warned. They have beer/wine too.

3826 Ross Ave(5 min walk) A serious dive (in a good way) just a block away on Ross. The design, if you can call it that, is inspired by 70's movies like Smokey and the Bandit. Thus the name. (type it in YouTube) Friendly bartenders who will make you feel at home, even if you're not a fan of Burt Reynolds.
