Great place to experience some Hershey without paying for a theme park admission. Make sure to take the free tour ride of Hershey's chocolate making... which ends in their large gift shops and eatery area! Takes about 1 hour. One of our family faves - still - after 20 years!
Be sure to drive around the town of Hershey and check out the Hershey Kiss street lights, if you are lucky you might even catch the whiff of chocolate being made in the downtown area!
In the mood for more shopping? Check out the Hershey Outlets down the road, or take a stroll on Chocolate Ave in town for quaint shops and restaurants.

Nice circular walking/biking trail that surrounds the lake. Oddly surrounded by industrial area and interstates, but you would hardly realize it! Pet friendly. No admission fee. Back behind the PA Farm Show building.

Harrisburg City Island! Catch a minor league ballgame on the island. Try dinner at one of the restaurants on 2nd Street in Harrisburg, and then walk across "Old Shaky" the pedestrian only bridge onto the island for a game. Parking is best on the island, but meter parking and parking garages are available in Harrisburg.
Take a walk around the island and maybe play a game of miniature golf on the north side. Check out the Pride of the Susquehanna River Boat on the south side.

If you are a Civil War history buff, a trip to Gettysburg National Park is an absolute must. But just a few hours to spare? This little gem of a museum is right in Harrisburg and is really well done. Located on a beautiful hill that overlooks the entire city - worth a trip just for the view. Shorter time commitment than a full day at Gettysburg, maybe 2 hours? Most kids really enjoy this museum.
