Cabbagetown has a storied history that even has a historical society who works hard to preserve that history. As you go for walks you’ll find beautiful examples old Victorian homes. While many of those homes were stately and were built by middle class families, our home and homes like it are how the area got its name. Cabbagetown was mostly filled with poorer workers who couldn’t afford food so they grew food on their front yards, mostly cabbage since that’s what was easiest to grow in the climate. What to see Take a short walk to Parliament Street. Affectionately called The Patch, you’ll find cute stores and restaurants in this street including a houseware store called Spruce, famous for its stylish no drip candles, Eclectisaurus a unique gift store, and Cabbagetown Barber shop. Just outside our door is the entrance to Riverdale Park West which includes a working farm that once was the city’s zoo, called the Riverdale farm. You’ll also find a swimming pool and baseball fields. There are lovely walking trails and beautiful areas for a picnic. We’ve included a picnic basket in the basement in case you want to take advantage of the park Where to eat Coffee- Jet Fuel Coffee (the brand of coffee in the coffee tin) Breakfast snack-Le Conciliabule, a delicious French bakery Brunch-Red Cranberries, although the decor is dated the food is good and the prices are reasonable Patio/neighborhood bar-House on Parliament, also serving brunch this is a great spot to spend with friends Dinner-L’avenue Restaurant, a fine dining French restaurant

Although it’s a bit of a long walk, the Distillery District is an area you must visit any time of year, but especially during Christmas time when they have their Christmas market. With cobblestone streets, and old distilleries converted into quaint restaurants and shops, there are many social media friendly spots for couples in the area including the love arch and the love sign made of locks. The area is also a great way to visualize the industrial era of the late 19th century. Best coffee-SOMA chocolatier, order a mocha coffee while you browse their chocolate shop Best brunch-Cluny Bistro, although on the pricier end, the food and service are impeccable Best patio-El Catrin, a Mexican inspired restaurant with a giant patio. Best neighbourhood pub-Mill Street brew pub, reasonably priced food and drinks in a large bar Best dinner- Madrina Bar y Tapas, the team here seems to really enjoy inventing cocktails and fun tapas menus that constantly evolve and change
