Farmer's Market right in front of the old town, this is the place locals go to get fresh products. If you want some snacks for the day, this is the place to go. I recommend trying: Prosciutto Cheese Olives Figs – fresh in summer, dried in other months Look out for the word ‘domaci’ – this means the produce comes from Montenegro.

Club Maximus, to the left as you walk in the Kotor main gate and pass the Hotel Cattaro on the main square, is the best night club in Montenegro and needs to be seen to be believed. Situated inside the actual walls of the old town, it accommodates 2,000 people in a variety of rooms – lasers, light shows, and music so loud you go deaf on entry!

Sightseeing

Tivat was once the region's center of salt manufacturing and a strategic naval base. Today, it hosts an international airport and is undergoing a jetset-lifestyle renaissance thanks to its new superyacht marina. You can take a walk around the marina and see lots of very nice yachts and some super yachts. You can also shop for designer clothing in the village and enjoy a cocktail overlooking the boats. Restaurants: One – modern Mediterranean cuisine. Al Posto Giusto – pizza, pasta, breakfasts and cakes. Mitsu – Asian fusion. Very expensive. The Club House – a pub where you can grab a beer and watch sports on the big screen. Moritz Eis - ice cream Byblos – Lebanese cuisine.

An UNESCO protected, unspoiled village with 17th century houses sprawling up the mountainside. One of the most beautiful little places in Boka Bay. This tiny town boasts 16 churches and 17 formerly grand palazzos. From the swimming pool you can see the 2 picturesque islets which are Perast’s most famous landmarks and are actually right in the middle of the waters. St. George (natural island) & Lady of the Rocks (man-made island). Many boats from the harbors are leaving to the islands. Many small restarurants on the Perast coast will offer you great fish specialties. Or have breakfast by the waterside and take a boat to the islands. Perast is definitely something special and a must-visit!

The Old City of Kotor is a well-preserved urbanization typical of the middle Ages, built between the 12th and 14th century. Medieval architecture and numerous monuments of cultural heritage have made Kotor land on the UNESCO’s World Natural and Historical Heritage Site list. It’s a fascinating rabbit-warren of alleyways, churches, palaces, souvenir shops and eateries. The tourist information office is in a kiosk just outside the main gate to the old town. You can get maps of the area here. One of the most popular things to do here is walk the old fortress walls up the mountain behind the town. From there you get breath-taking views of the town and the Bay of Kotor.

In Lipa cave nature created playful and unique forms of cave ornaments (stalagmites and stalactites). Lipa Cave just 5km from Cetinje is a fantastic attraction for all ages. The tours start with a mini-train ride to the entrance of the cave and then you have a guided tour through the cave system. Constant temperature inside the cave is between 8-12⁰C or 46-53⁰F. Lipa cave is located in Dobrosko village, on the outskirts of Cetinje, on the pass by National restaurant Belveder. This restaurant is simply out of this world! Their setting on the top of the mountain is just stunning. The vistas are amazing, the food is world class and the service is outstanding.

The church in the cliff. Ostrog Monastery is one of the most revered religious sites in all of the former Yugoslav states. It’s visited by up to a million tourists and pilgrims every year. It’s also revered and visited by Orthodox Christians, Roman Catholics and Muslims. Although Ostrog is a tourist attraction, it’s very much a place of worship and has a sombre air. The hushed tone of the place is perfect for allowing you to appreciate the views over the plains and the dedication it must have taken to construct this church in the side of a cliff.

Sveti Stefan is a tiny islet and a former town connected to the mainland by a small land bridge. It was a small town but was turned into a hotel and it rapidly became a favourite spot for Hollywood stars and royalty. It fell into disrepair but it's been completely renovated and it's become popular again with the likes of Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic. It’s undeniably a beautiful spot and a must-see Montenegro attraction. The most popular place to photograph it from is a lookout point on the main road above. Unfortunately you can’t visit the island because it’s a hotel belonging to the Aman Resorts chain. Nights there start at around €800 per night.

Durmitor/Kolasin This national park is a UNESCO-protected area. It is great for both summer and winter activities and is the location of the world’s largest canyon with the exception of the Grand Canyon in the USA. The River Tara flows through the canyon for 80kms, at times below cliffs towering at a height of 1300m and various companies offer white water rafting trips. There are also ancient inscribed standing stones and “mountain eyes”, beautiful glacial lakes. An early start or 2-day trip.

Morinj Beach is a sand-gravel lovely beach. It is good for families with children. The trendy beach bar Tramontana has great beds and is very cheap. Local's Tip: Skip the tourist crowds on Morinj's main beach and hang with the locals at Ponta Morinj, just 400m from Tramontana towards Kotor. It's a tiny terrace on the seafront with a cafe, loungers and a small beach. Chilled music, a glass of Vranac and a great place for kids to play make it a top spot in the bay.

The Blue Cave on Lustica Peninsula is one of the must-see attractions while you’re on the coast. It’s called the Blue Cave because the way the light hits the sandy bottom and reflects up through the water makes the whole cave look blue. It’s very beautiful and it’s a lucky quirk because almost all of the coast here is rocky, not sandy. You can see the blue light shining out of the cave when you approach, but to really see it you’ve got to go inside and get underwater. Don’t forget your snorkel or goggles when you come here! You can only get to the cave by boat. You can take a boat tour from Herceg Novi marina departing 9am and 10am every day from April through to October (weather dependent).

No list of Montenegro attractions would be complete without Tara Canyon. Next to the Grand Canyon, it’s the second deepest canyon in the world and the deepest in Europe. Lipci Rock, near to the Lavender Bay Resort. See the sign along the Risan bay road near the roundabout in Lipci. The drawings are difficult to see. Once you've gone up the driveway, (park in the marked bays on the main road) walk up the concrete drive and you will see a sign after walking the short distance up the hill. Go up the rocky path- eventually you will see a cave to the right. Once you've turned back out of the cave, turn right and at the holders walking uphill again, take 17 strides up the hill and turn to your right and look at the cliff face, you should then see more drawings, this time of animals. The art dates back to the beginnings of the 1st millennium B.C. Free to see!
