Достопримечательности

Having conquered Estonia in the Great Northern War, Peter the Great bought in 1714 five summer residences erected during the Swedish era at the bottom of the slope of Lasnamäe Hill. The terraced nature of the area combined with the European character of the city and closeness of the sea made the Tsar think of building a summer palace [palace and park ensemble] on this site. An entry in the Tsar’s field journal for July 22, 1718 reads: “The Emperor was at his house just outside the city, taking measurements for the palace foundation and park for which purpose architect Michetti had been brought along from Saint Petersburg.” In nearly seven years the most grandiose and stylish Baroque palace and park ensemble in the whole of Estonia was built on approximately one eighth of the acquired land. Regrettably, not all of the Emperor’s spectacular ideas were realized – Peter the Great died an early death on February 8, 1725. The Director of Riga Gardens and Parks added to the sea-facing part of the Park in 1897, adhering to the principles applicable to informal parks. In the 1930s the People’s Park with the Swan Pond Square, Youth Park, alpine garden, and bandstand were built south of the Baroque park. Behind the Palace Flower Garden were constructed the administrative building /office of the President of the Republic of Estonia and a garden. In the 1990s a separate authority was established to manage Kadriorg Park and maintenance and renovation work commenced in the Park: Mere (Sea) and Kaarna (Raven) Avenues were restored, Rose Hill was designed, the Youth Park and other sites were redesigned. The newest part of the Park – stage I of the Japanese garden - was completed in 2011.

Mantel & Korsten – lovely restaurant in a green wooden house that has red roof and mantel chimney. The restaurant got its name after the beautiful mantel chimney that is actually the only one in Kadriorg at the moment. Our customers have the opportunity to experience it themselves – there is a small private dining room inside the mantel chimney. In fact, we did not plan to open another restaurant, but sometimes it happens in life that one thing leads to another and that’s how the new restaurant was born. There are two very special persons working in Mantel & Korsten – restaurant manager and sommelier Rain Veskimäe and head chef Jüri Vainküla, who has been working with us since the opening of the restaurant Moon, in other words over 10 years. We felt that at the time the restautants’ first sommelier/manager and head chef Jüri had achieved their full potential regarding their skills and ambitions. Therefore, we opened this restaurant so these two talents could challenge themselves. The new signature kitchen offers various great Mediterranean inspired dishes that you can complement with wines and other drinks. Our main goal is to provide food that is not only tasty but also simple and made of wholesome natural ingredients forming a harmonious whole. Our sommelier and restaurant manager Rain has carefully selected the drink menu and he will recommend something to suit your palate and tastes with pleasure. Our wine list focus is on smaller wineries, where winemakers are artist themselves. As with food, the produce is very important, it is also very important for us when wine producers cultivate sustainable viticulture. The creation of our kitchen as well as the selection of drinks, which our team is happy to introduce and recommend to you, will create a memorable experience. If the restaurant Kolm Sibulat is restaurant Moon’s brother then Mantel & Korsten is their little sister. Welcome!

Tallinn Old Town If someone were to ask, ‘Is the Old Town just a life-size museum?’, the only correct answer would be, ‘No, of course not!’ The fact that it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List confirms that it is valuable treasure. But the number of important and exciting events that still take place there also prove it is lively and constantly evolving. The heart of the Old Town, the Town Hall Square, is where Estonians greet their heroes returning home from big accomplishments abroad. In summer, the Old Town Days and Medieval Days attract Estonians and foreigners alike to the Town Hall Square. Every mid-November, we watch in awe as the Christmas tree is erected on the Town Hall Square, and we prepare to enjoy one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the world. Tallinn’s long-standing café culture has always revolved around the Old Town, be it Maiasmokk, the oldest café in Tallinn dating back to 1864, Pierre Chocolaterie in the hidden Masters’ Courtyard, or a number of other trendy establishments. When it comes to views, you can’t beat those from the Old Town Wall, its towers and Toompea Hill’s viewing platforms. The Old Town is like a good book, rewarding those who read beyond its cover with delightful secrets.
