Well-regarded, family-run Sicilian café 10 minutes’ walk from here. Great for lunch, but you may have to wait because it’s popular!

Scottish chain of Ramen restaurants with several branches nearby, but the one on Leith Street is the nicest! Recommended: Pumpkin Katsu Curry (or Hell Ramen for something spicier). 15 minutes walk, near Princes Street.

Five minutes’ walk, basically just at the top of this street! Scotland’s first public park, a short (5 min) walk from the bottom to the top of the hill with incredible views of the city, the Firth of Forth, Arthur’s Seat, the Pentland Hills and beyond. I’m there every day! Also several famous monuments.

The beautiful Water of Leith path starts at EH6 6HE but the nearest point from here to join it is 15 minutes away is at St Mark's Path, Edinburgh EH7 4GA. Walk along this river to Dean Village for an hour-long beautiful walk that deceptively leaves you quite near the city centre.

A winding path through former railway lines. Eventually takes out out on Seafield Road, where you can walk to Portobello Beach!

Yes Edinburgh has a sandy beach. Take the bus here (you can get buses there from London Road to Portobello) or walk along the Restalrig Railway Path and Seafield Road to get there. Pizza, ice cream and nice eateries / coffee along the beachfront.

A more advanced climb than Calton Hill but a beautiful view. Not too strenuous, is completed every day by people of all ages. Walk to Holyrood Park, 15 minutes from the flat, to start.
