Food Scene

Lovely local pub with good food and a beer garden. Often has live music, quizzes and in the summer they host a music festival. Fantastic pizza, which can also be ordered as a takeaway if you fancy a cosy night in the bothy or to go with your BBQ on a warm summer's evening. Walk there in 20-25 mins.

The closest pub to the Cotswolds Bothy, within 10 - 15 minutes walking distance. Turn left out of our entrance, then right up the farm track at the end of Moon's Lane, and follow that to the top, turn left walking through the tree lined avenues, past the caravan, and keep walking until you reach the road. Turn right onto the road, then take the first left and walk down the hill. You'll see the pub on your left. Lovely pub with good food and lovely garden with views over the valley,

The Woolpack is steeped in history and character; a public house for over 300 years. Set the beautiful Slad Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Woolpack is one of the last, independant, gems of a British country pub. Daniel Chadwick has owned his much-loved pub for 20 years, now working closely with general manager Harry Wynne-Morgan and head chef Adam Glover. Entering The Woolpack is like stepping back in time: unspoiled by passing fads, and famed for its lifelong association with poet Laurie Lee, who wrote 'Cider with Rosie' here, it's loved by locals and visitors alike.

Inside the Sandersons Department store is a hidden gem, Terra restaurant, which serves the most fantastic Italian food we’ve ever had. Open Mon-Sat for coffees, breakfast and gorgeous Italian lunches. Also in Five Valleys is a brilliant street food market serving dishes from all over the world. And some great shops with good value, stylish clothing. Also check out the Indian shop to the left of Five Valleys for great value silk clothing from Rajasthan. All these places are dog friendly - as are most places in the area.

Lose your heart in one of the world’s most romantic gardens.. This lovely, timeless garden, with spectacular views over a deer park and rolling Cotswold hills beyond, was designed in the 17th Century and still retains a wonderful sense of peace and tranquillity. There are extensive yew hedges, including a notable topiary yew walk designed by Lutyens as well as some magnificent mixed borders, which contain a wide range of roses, clematis, shrubs and herbaceous plants that provide colour right through from spring to autumn. Lovely cafe too.

The much beloved Painswick Rococo Garden was designed back in the 1740s as a rather flamboyant pleasure garden for entertaining guests at decadent garden parties. But these days it's much more valued as a fun day out exploring the permanent and seasonal delights the grounds have to offer!

Arts & Culture

A sizeable town by Cotswolds standards, Stroud, 15 miles west of Cirencester, once hummed with the sound of more than 150 cloth mills in action, but when the bottom fell out of the industry, it went into decline. Now something of a bohemian enclave, known for its lively arts scene, with many performance and live music venues, you'll find arts and music every night and weekend daytimes. Pick up a copy of local free monthly newspaper, 'Good on Paper', at one of the local shops, to see full listings.

Gallery Pangolin is a 'must-see' on any tour of the Cotswolds. Tucked away in the village of Chalford on the slopes of the escarpment is one of Gloucestershire's best-kept secrets. On what was once a Victorian industrial site at the heart of the Golden Valley, Gallery Pangolin is one of the few galleries to specialise in sculpture and related drawings and is open to visitors 6 days a week. Located on Chalford Industrial Estate on the A419 in between Stroud and Cirencester.
