Haywood Smokehouse is a wonderful place to experience BBQ in North Carolina! The restaurant is in an old house, with additional seating outside under a tent. Try the pulled pork with any of their many sauces, or let the Texas style brisket melt in your mouth. it might just change your life.

Hiking and Views

This is an impressive viewpoint! like many of the other hiking recommendations this is a decent drive from our cabin. It should take 50 minutes or so to get to the trailhead and the hike itself will take 1.5-2hours.

Devils Courthouse has amazing views and is a short (but steep) walk up to the lookout. You can see peaks in a few states from the top. If you want big views and a moderate hikes you can search all trails for Devils Courthouse to Black Balsam. on the way back down from the lookout, a somewhat hidden trail will be to your right. You can go as far as you want, but this hike offers big views and is mostly rolling flat along ridgeline. not too strenuous.

This is a very popular hike with big views. Black Balsam offers 360 views and is very beautiful. Make sure to wear your sunscreen in the summer as there is alot of exposure and not alot of shade.

Impressive views and one of the shorter drives from our cabin. complete this hike with the family in the morning and be back in town for lunch. This hike is great for catching sunrise or sunset. It is steep to the summit and around 1.2 miles round trip. Please be respectful if you decide to venture down to the plane crash site. As always, leave no trace.

Day Trip

This is more of a destination for a day trip. If you have a day and want to take in a lot of Western North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Parkway and some waterfalls, head to Brevard. This is a scenic route as I would recommend stopping at Devil's Courthouse and taking the long way to Brevard. On the way to Devils Courthouse stop at Licklog overlook, Cowee Mtn overlook and others. Make sure to check out Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock and many more opportunities for sights on this drive. As you exit the national forest there is a great BBQ spot (Hang Wild). Heading back to the cabin go through Asheville and stop at the outlets, or a brewery of your choice. If you chose not to eat yet, there are tons of great options in Asheville including Luella's Barbeque.

Sightseeing

This is a bit of drive from the cabin , but a very popular park for waterfalls. Take a hike to see the falls, and see if you feel like you are in The Hunger Games.
