Antiques…

If you like to shop for antiques here’s a few of our favorite spots to go looking for something interesting…
The Screen Door is what I consider a boutique antique shop. Smaller booths, more curated selection. I struggle not to buy something every time I go. So if you go for lunch in Biltmore Village and want to burn 45 minutes (instead of hours at the Tobacco Barn) I highly recommend stopping in here.

Probably Asheville’s most popular antique mall, the Tobacco Barn is a day’s activity if you are really on the hunt. It’s huge (and cold in the winter). There are a few reproduction vendors taking up more room than I wish, but it is what it is. I don’t feel like I ever score a deal there, but it’s so large and has no many vendors you’re likely to find something close to what you are looking for.

This one feels like more of a local’s resale/antique shop. Smaller than the Tobacco Barn and more affordable with negotiable prices over $100 and really friendly staff, I really like this place.

Our Favorite Restaurants

Admittedly we haven’t hit nearly all the restaurant options in Asheville. We’re more of that couple that goes out occasionally and prefers a comfortable environment we know will be a great meal. So that is what we are sharing!
The Chicken Marsala at Twisted Laurel one of my favorite things on the planet! And I’m a football fan… this is the BEST place to watch games; they have a entire room for those of us who are obsessed. Great food and beer selection and service is always good… I just love this place.

Boy is this place eclectic in its style. And you would think it would be just for those who love Greek food. IT IS NOT! Absolutely a locals favorite this restaurant never disappoints.

I challenge you… find a person in Asheville who doesn’t absolutely love Nine Mile. My only complaint is the menu is almost too long… there are so many options! There is one in west asheville as well, but the original in Montford is still our favorite. Go early or expect a wait bc it’s small and popular. But go- it’s so tasty.

Mad Co is Marshalls little brewery. They have a nice selection of beers of all kinds and their pizza is actually very good. They have live music often and trivia nights and it’s just a lovely hang out if you prefer the small town scene. (It’s like 6 minutes from the Outpost!)

If you are looking for the finest pastries, quiches and desserts along with that perfect cappuccino Well-Bred is the spot for you. (If you want a much more laid back, quick and simple coffee experience… go to AllGood Coffee (next to Twisted Laurel) ;-)

Zadie’s is a nice surprise in Marshall. It’s quaint and delicious. You walk up to the bar, order a pint of beer or a bottle of wine and your food and find a table. It’s an elevated experience in a casual setting. I think it’s a nice fit for Marshall :-)

Convenient Places to Buy Groceries

Funny to add a grocery store to a Guide Book? Not in this case! So when you arrive at The Outpost you're probably wondering where is the closest and best place to pick up groceries. Ingles is the big supermarket around here. Biggest, but not the always the best. Biggest beer and wine selection (within 10 minutes of the house), yes. But for everything we else we highly recommend Publix in Weaverville. Great quality and everyone is SO FRIENDLY and helpful. It's really a different shopping experience. Special things to note: Their sushi is INCREDIBLE. I know "grocery store sushi" sounds gross. Trust us- here, it is amazing. Made fresh every day by an outside vendor on site. You can even make special requests (within reason) if you catch them there when they are making it. Wednesday $5 rolls. Just trust us... if you like sushi, try it.
