There are many landmarks that visitors will appreciate when they visit Hawley. Of course, our biggest attraction for summer fun and winter ice fishing is Lake Wallenpaupack, the third largest freshwater lake in Pennsylvania. Measuring 52 miles of shoreline, it is 13 miles in length and boast depths up to 60 feet. Its overall surface exceeds 5,700 acres.
When you drive into town, the first building that will catch your eye is the Hawley Silk Mill. It was the first large-scale silk factory in Northern Pennsylvania. In 2011, the building was refurbished and turned into a lifestyle center. It features art galleries, dining, entertainment, a fitness center and Lackawanna College. When you drive through town on Main Street, you will discover unique places to eat, shop, and explore. Take a drive down Church Street to see our beautiful churches or down Keystone Street to see the Ritz Company Playhouse, celebrating its 45th year in bringing entertainment to the community in the form of live theater productions.
After you cross the Lackawaxen River, you will be delighted by the Bandstand at Bingham Park. The 5.51 acres of land it sits on was donated to the Borough of Hawley in 1929 by Adelbert and Margaret Bingham. The park is always alive with baseball games, tennis, playground activities, summer picnics, and more. It is the site of our Farmer’s Market which is open on Fridays from May through October. On any weekend you are likely to discover a craft show, a special event, or a concert at the Bandstand.
And before you make the turn toward Honesdale, be sure to check out The Settlers Inn. Native blue stone and chestnut wood are the foundation of the Inn’s massive structure. The Inn delights visitors and locals with beautiful accommodations, farm-to-table menus, and entertainment throughout the year.

It was the first steam locomotive to run on commercial tracks in the United States. A full-scale replica of the famous Stourbridge Lion—a must-see for the railroad buffs and children of all ages—sits in the Wayne County Historical Society’s Museum and Research Center, located at 810 Main Street. The greater Honesdale area is rich in architectural treasures, many dating back to the 1800s. It features many fine retail and gift shops; friendly, professional services; cozy restaurants and cafes; and architecturally resplendent homes. Honesdale’s picturesque Central Park overlooks Wayne County’s historic Court House, as well as several other prominent buildings, such as the boyhood home of Dick Smith, composer of “Winter Wonderland” and the Old Stone Jail, which dates back to 1859.
