Outdoors

Best nearby hiking spot for a quick morning or afternoon hike. You can get there within 15 mins and have access to unlimited hiking, mountain biking and cross country ski trails. Lots of trails for peak baggers looking for a high altitude rush with hikes as short at 3 miles with up to 3500 ft elevation gain. Ouch! For those of us less INCLINED (bad joke) to feel the burn, Millcreek offers numerous milder trails with shade and water features. Odd days of the month are off leash for dogs, and even days are open for mountain bikes. Check avalanche reports for winter months!!

Some Basic Snow-bro Lingo -sick pow : lots of good powdery snow -boney : not enough snow to cover the rocks yet -shredding the gnar : snowboarding rough terrain like a pro -freshies : fresh snow -crunchy : cool -steez : style

One of the best places to go to beat the summer heat! This easy / moderate loop hike is about 6 miles of lake, after lake, after lake, after lake to swim in. Don't want to do the whole loop? No problem, check the map and hike in under 2 miles to find a huge mountain lake at your service. A National Forest day pass is required and can be purchased for $5 at the Heber -Kamas Rangers Office, 50 E Center St, Kamas, UT 84036, or online at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/r4/passes-permits/recreation/?cid=fsbdev2_027009

One of the coolest things I have ever seen. Weather permitting these are well worth the price and drive! Generally they will open in November / December. https://icecastles.com/utah

You have to go! Its a bit of a drive, but the strange and otherworldly feeling of the Salt Flats is amazing. If you're lucky there will still be a few pools from spring rains to soak in. Check google and bring a few towels per person. The salt sticks to all your hairs and can be fairly painful to rub off once it dries.

Best Places for a Beer and a Bite

These are some of my favorite places to go for a casual beer with friends, or a longer dinner and drinks. Most of them have outdoor seating and welcome dogs on the patio.
Great local spot for a bite and a beer. One of the oldest breweries in Salt Lake City, this place has lots of communal seating indoors and picnic tables outdoors for small groups. A revolving group of local food trucks serve up dinner almost every night, so you won't go hungry if you happen to stay a bit too long. Bring your dog and a friend! This is what Salt Lake City is about.

Best spot in the neighborhood for a casual dinner and drinks. The food is elevated grub and pup and they have a great selection of beers on tap. I highly recommend the Sloppy Shrooms and the Trout Tacos. Can you tell eating out is kinda my thing?

Fancier Food Scene

Some of my favorite fancier food spots in town. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time so you don't miss out! I moved here from LA, so I'm PICKY! Enjoy!!
Great spot for a fancy dinner or date. Seriously, one of the selling points of the neighborhood for me. They specialize in seasonal local dishes, great wine selection and always a desert or two to knock you socks off. Menu is somewhere between fancy and comfort and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. Also a great spot for brunch, but again, make a reservation in advance.

Nestled in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Salt Lake City, known locally as "The Avenues", Wildwood offers a great selection of seasonal dishes. Their menu and experience leans more toward fine dining so come prepared to spend some $$$ and enjoy a number of smaller, but delicious dishes.

Get a Reservation! This place is always booked beacause it has a great selection of well prepared local favorites (Funeral Potatoes-YUM!!) and delicious in house dishes. The menu changes regularly and has a variety of scrumptious dishes for any palette. The vibe is hip and super cozy and makes for a fun way to start the night or a more upscale family dining experience.

COFFEE!!!

Best local spots for a quick breakfast and COFFEE!
Right across the street from the apartment, this place has a variety of coffee, tea, pastry, deserts and other delights. One of the longest standing institutions of Gay Pride in the city! The warm and cozy neighborhood vibe feels like Cheers... if it was a coffee shop, and I almost guarantee if you go there 3 days in a row they will know your name.

A bit of a mob scene on the weekends and Monday night, but hey!, thats every Trader Joes. You should feel right at home. One thing we have that seems a bit special is frozen rainbow trout. If you like salmon, but think it's a bit over powering, you will likely enjoy trout.
